First Look at PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING’s Jaegers, and More Movie News

You say you think last weekend’s Super Bowl match-up was something? Folks, you ain’t see nothin’ yet–the battle at this weekend’s box office sees the Caped Crusader going up against Keanu Reeves! But before you head out to catch The LEGO Batman Movie and/or John Wick: Chapter 2, we’ve got a few more Movie Morsels to share with you this week, including our first look at the heavy metal Jaegers of Pacific Rim: Uprising, a very cool casting update on the Rampage adaptation, and much more!

Pacific Rim: Uprising

The thing that immediately strikes me about the next generation of Jaegers we’ll be seeing in the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, revealed in the latest issue of the licensing magazine License! Global, is how colorful they are. Kind of like a colossal-sized team of Power Rangers. Whether or not this is indicative of an overall lighter tone for the film remains to be seen, but whatever direction Legendary’s Pacific Rim: Uprising takes, I expect these things will look pretty damn cool in action. Now let’s see some of the Kaiju they’ll be pitted against!

Rampage

Dwayne Johnson may have just found his next sparring partner! The adaptation of that classic ’80s video game Rampage is close to signing two more stars: Magic Mike‘s Joe Manganiello and Grindhouse‘s Marley Shelton. (Manganiello is of course also expected to play Deathstroke opposite Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight in The Batman if that film ever gets itself a director.) Naomie Harris has already been announced to co-star as a kindly geneticist and Johnson as the hero tasked with saving North America from a giant gorilla, crocodile, and wolf. Manganiello will play “the leader of a private military group” while Shelton will portray “a scientist and astronaut.” Does this mean Manganiello’s character will be allied or at odds with the Rock’s? Hmmm…

The Circle

Now here’s some megastar wattage for ya. A new trailer for the techno thriller The Circle (based on the best-selling novel by Dave Eggers) has just dropped, featuring Emma Watson, John Boyega, Karen Gillan, Patton Oswalt, and an uncharacteristically creepy Tom Hanks as the Bill Gates-like leader of the titular organization Watson’s character has fallen into…

The Girl with All the Gifts

For more creepiness, albeit of an altogether different kind, we’ve got a new clip from the indie zombie flick The Girl with All the Gifts. Starring Glenn Close and Gemma Arterton, the movie is about a young lady who may or may not be immune to the infection that’s turned much of humanity into flesh-eating “hungries”…

Halloween

Halloween-Myers

In case you missed it yesterday, it looks like we may not have all that much longer to wait for Michael Myers’ next kill. Yes, the Halloween franchise reboot is apparently shaping up quite nicely, with filmmaker David Gordon Green and Danny McBride on board!
