First Look at New DUCKTALES Series Headed to Disney XD

Back in the 1990s, Disney reigned supreme with a syndicated block of after school programming known as the Disney Afternoon. For many kids of my generation, this was an uninterrupted block of cartoon programming that stirred imagination, awoke a desire for adventure, and contained more prat falls than you might have expected. This included shows like Darkwing Duck, Chip & Dale’s Rescue Rangers, Tale Spin, Goof Troop, and many others. But were it not for the success of their second major series (following Gummi Bears), we might never have had those others. I’m speaking of course about the one, the only, DuckTales.

This was the show that told us that “D-d-d-danger lurks behind you” with a series of adventures involving the impossibly rich treasure hunter Scrooge McDuck who has been tasked with taking care of his three grandnephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie, and who—in a move of astonishingly bad parenting—would take them across the globe looking for pieces of gold for his eyesore of a money bin. Boy, what a great show!

Now, it’s been announced that Disney is bringing back the series, a new version, to play on their ever-growing older-kids network, Disney XD. It’s set to debut in 2017, but we have our first glimpse at a new image from the series right here:

DUCKTALES - Disney's "DuckTales," an all-new animated comedy series based on the Emmy Award-winning series, will again star Disney's enduringly popular characters: Scrooge McDuck, his grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, and Donald Duck. Produced by Disney Television Animation, the series is set to debut in 2017 on Disney XD. (Disney XD)

The series will follow Unca Scrooge and the boys on new adventures, along with (from the looks of the picture) Webby, the granddaughter of Scrooge’s housekeeper, and Scrooge’s nephew Donald Duck. Donald made a few appearances in the original Emmy-winning series, but here he looks to be a main character. What we don’t know yet is whether or not fan favorite Launchpad McQuack will return as Scrooge’s airheaded but loyal pilot. If I had my druthers, we’d also get Gizmoduck back, but I feel like Launchpad is an absolute must.

We will find out together next year! What do you think of the new DuckTales image? Will you tune in to see if it’s a duck blur? Let us know in the comments below!
