First Look at Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Mycroft Holmes #1

You’re never too old to break into comics, but it helps if you can hit the skyhook.

NBA legend and best-selling author Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is making his comic book debut later this year in Titan Comics’ Mycroft Holmes, a series that puts the older brother of Sherlock Holmes in the spotlight. And according to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself, Mycroft is even smarter than Sherlock!

Abdul-Jabbar previously wrote a Mycroft Holmes novel with Anna Waterhouse, but for this comic book adventure, he’ll be joined by co-writer Raymond Obstfeld and artist Joshua Cassara. Titan Comics has released a few of Cassara’s pages from Mycroft Holmes #1, which find the title character in the company of a woman when his younger brother confronts him.

Mycroft Holmes Preview 3

As you may have noticed, this version of Mycroft is not the out-of-shape man described in the original Sherlock Holmes stories, and he’s also a bit of a womanizer. But the Holmes’ brothers may have bigger problems than sibling rivalry in the remaining preview pages, which you can find in our gallery below. Titan Comics also passed along the covers by Cassara and Luis Guerrero, Rod Reis, and Paul McCaffrey.

Here’s the official description of Mycroft Holmes #1:

“Basketball legend, novelist, and superstar polymath Kareem Abdul-Jabbar brings his take on Sherlock Holmes’ older brother to comics at last! An all-new adventure set in the world of the bestselling Mycroft Holmes novel, “The Apocalypse Handbook,” sees the diffident, brilliant Mycroft pulled into a globe-spanning adventure at the behest of Queen Victoria and a secret organization at the heart of the British government. A madman is on the loose with civilization-destroying weapons, each two hundred years in advance of the status quo. Can the smartest man in England set aside his idle, womanizing ways for long enough to track down the foe that may be his match?”

Mycroft Holmes #1 will be released on Wednesday, August 3.
