James Wan’s 2010 film Insidious was a surprisingly effective and creepy haunted-kid movie, and now he and screenwriter Leigh Whannell are back for another round of astral-plane demons and creepy old hags in Insidious: Chapter 2.
The first film very much ended with a twist, and it appears as though the twist just keeps on a-twisting, as Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne continue their thankless task of protecting their son from things that want to get him. Expect a huge amount of long quiets followed by quick movements and loud musical stings. It’s Wan’s stock and trade, that.
Insidious: Chapter 2 comes out September 13th, which means he’s having a big year because his similarly-themed The Conjuring comes out July 19th. Lots of ghosts in houses this year.
