FINAL FANTASY XV Gets New (Later) Release Date

FINAL FANTASY XV Gets New (Later) Release Date

The bad news: you’ll have to wait an additional two months to get your hands on Final Fantasy XV. Some time after initial reports that the game, the latest in an almost-30-year-old franchise that has included some of the most revered and influential entries in video game history, would be hitting shelves on September 30, rumors hit the web that delays had befallen the production of the anticipated title. Over the weekend, Kotaku reported that Final Fantasy XV‘s new official release date: November 29.

Kotaku included an official video statement from Final Fantasy distributor Square Enix, which included an apology from Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata. (The video is in Japanese, but Kotako included translated snippets.) But here seems like an organic place to bring up the good news: what’s a few measly weeks if it means the game will meet the precise standards of the innovators who’ve brought us such terrific Final Fantasy titles time and time again?

Everything we’ve read about Final Fantasy XV provides ample confidence in the title. The game takes its players to the five-nation world of Eos, upon which a war is being waged between the propagators of technology and those of magic. If the promising premise and long-enough-to-instill-some-serious-withdrawal wait time haven’t sufficiently whet your appetites for Final Fantasy XV, perhaps the musical stylings of Florence and the Machine will do the trick—the band’s songs from the upcoming game’s soundtrack are now available to hear online.

Will you be checking out Final Fantasy XV when it releases on November 29? Let us know!
