Felicia Day Joins the MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 Revival

The Bring Back MST3K Kickstarter has surpassed its original $2 million funding goal heading into the traditional Mystery Science Theater 3000 Turkey Day Marathon. To mark the occasion, series creator Joel Hodgson has announced the addition of geek goddess Felicia Day to the new cast.

Day will portray Kinga Forrester, the daughter of MST3K’s first mad scientist, Dr. Clayton Forrester (Trace Beaulieu) and the granddaughter of Pearl Forrester (Mary Jo Pehl), the lead villainess in the later seasons of the show. Day is also the creator of the hit online series, The Guild and one of the founders of Geek & Sundry, Nerdist’s sister site under the Legendary Digital Networks banner. (Hooray family!)

On the MST3K Kickstarter page, Hodgson explained his take on Day’s new character, saying that “I’ve always felt the Forrester clan were from Scandinavian backgrounds, mainly because MST3K has such deep roots in the Midwest, and especially Minnesota…[Day] can pull off being likable, intimidating, and ‘crazy’ all at the same time: a total wild card!”

Hodgson also announced that comedians Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn will be the new voices of Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo, respectively.

“I don’t want them to make ‘sound-alike’ Tom Servos and Crows,” said Hodgson. “The bots aren’t like the Muppets: they’ve always been manifestations of the people running them. Kevin [Murphy] didn’t sound exactly like Josh [Weinstein], and Bill [Corbett] didn’t sound exactly like Trace. And the way I see it, the point of being a movie riffing robot is that you can do a bunch of voices and dialects – not just sound like the last guy.”

The Nerdist Podcast co-host Jonah Ray has already been announced as the new lead character for the MST3K revival. But there is still at least one more role to be announced: Kinga Forrester’s henchman. According Hodgson, formal offers to the cast will be sent out after the Kickstarter campaign ends.

Speaking of which, the Kickstarter campaign is running until Friday, December 11, and you can visit the page here. If funding reaches $5.5 million, then a full 12-episode season of the new MST3K will be produced.
