Feast Like a King at BlizzCon with WORLD OF WARCRAFT Meat Pies

World of Warcraft fans may have to wait until November 13 World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor to arrive, but they can celebrate all things Blizzard this weekend with BlizzCon! Whether you’re watching at home with a virtual ticket, attending the mayhem in person, or spending hours and hours playing your favorite game at home, you will portable sustenance and what’s better than a homemade savory meat pie?

Flaky pastry stuffed with savory meat filling and topped off with a horde symbol. It will keep you going as you get ready to raid. Time to cook up some meat pies…for the horde!!

World of Warcraft Meat PiesWorld of Warcraft Meat Pies
-makes 4*

-pastry dough ingredients:
-2 cups all-purpose flour
-1 teaspoon sugar
-1/2 teaspoon salt
-6 Tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
-4 – 6 tablespoons ice water

filling ingredients:
-1 potato, diced
-1 Tablespoon olive oil
-1/2 cup onion
-1 clove garlic, minced
-1/2 lb ground beef
-1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
-1/2 teaspoon paprika
-dash of cayenne
-salt and pepper

egg wash ingredients:
-1 egg
-1 Tablespoon water

In a large bowl, stir together the flour, salt, and sugar. With a pastry cutter, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until it’s in crumbly, small pieces.

Drizzle in the water by the Tablespoon mixing just until the dough comes together.

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge.

Peel and dice the potato and boil in a saucepan for ten minutes until tender. Drain and set aside.

Saute the onion and garlic in the olive oil until soft.

Add the ground beef, Worcestershire Sauce, paprika and cayenne and cook until browned. Fold in the potatoes and season with salt and pepper.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Prep a baking sheet with a silpat or parchment paper.

Roll out the dough and cut into eight, 4-inch by 6-inch rectangles. Place four rectangles down on the prepped baking sheet. Spoon the filling into the center.

Place another rectangle of dough on top of the filling then crimp the edges together with a fork.

Roll out the dough again and with a cookie cutter cut out Warcraft Horde symbols and place on top of the pies.

In a small bowl whisk together the egg and water and brush onto the pies.

Bake for 25 minutes until browned, let cool slightly and serve.
