FARGO Creator Noah Hawley Will Direct Sci-Fi Film MAN ALIVE

We’re still at least a year away from the return of FX’s Fargo, a series that showrunner Noah Hawley has unexpectedly turned into one of the best things on television. However, Hawley now has a new cinematic project to keep himself busy before Fargo returns.

Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox has signed Hawley to make his feature film directorial debut with Man Alive, a recently acquired spec script by Joe Greenberg. Very little is known about Man Alive’s story or premise, but the report calls it an “elevated sci-fi” and notes that it is also the first script written and sold by Greenberg. So, there must be something in it that excited the studio and got Hawley on board. But exactly what it’s about is just going to have to be the topic of speculation for now.

Hawley has dipped a little into sci-fi fare on Fargo, which has featured a few unexplainable events and even a recurring UFO in the second season. Hawley is also becoming FX’s go-to writer for its biggest projects, as he is currently preparing the pilot episode of Legion, based on the Marvel Comics character who was the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier. The Legion TV series may not have any overt ties to the X-Men, but Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Jean Smart, and Rachel Keller have already been signed to star in it.

On top of that, FX has also lined up Hawley to write an adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut’s arms race satire Cat’s Cradle as a miniseries. With so many projects on Hawley’s plate, don’t be too surprised if Man Alive doesn’t go before the cameras until after Fargo season three hits in 2017.
