FANTASTIC BEASTS Sequel Brings a Familiar HARRY POTTER Wizard into the Mix

Pottermore has announced a whole cauldron full of casting news for the next film in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series, and longtime Harry Potter fans will recognize many of the names in this latest roundup.

The biggest is that of the famed alchemist Nicolas Flamel, who will be played in the movie by Brontis Jodorowsky. Flamel is known for his relationship to the Philosopher’s Stone (both the book and the actual stone), as it is believed he used it to create the Elixir of Life, a potion that extends the lifespan of the drinker.

We know Flamel will survive Grindelwald’s reign of terror because he’s alive and well during the events of the first Harry Potter novel, at least long enough to endorse Dumbledore’s plan to destroy the Philosopher’s Stone to keep it out of the hands of Voldemort. Just like with he who shall not be named, it’s easy to see that Grindelwald might be interested in something so powerful.

While Flamel is the newest character fans will recognize, their are some other names that carry great meaning for Potterheads too, namely Torquil Travers and Rosier, played by Derek Riddell and Poppy Corby-Tuech, respectively. “Travers” and “Rosier” happen to be the names of two Death Eaters who served Lord Voldemort, leading us to suspect that these new characters are their ancestors. Considering how often following Dark Wizards seem to be a family affair, we’d bet on them being members of Grindelwald’s army.

That said, the most well-known (real) name to join the cast is The Daily Show’s Jessica Williams, but her part is unknown as of this time, ditto that of newcomer Fiona Glascott. The rest of the new additions included Cornell S. John as Arnold Guzman, Wolf Roth as someone named Spielman, and Call the Midwife star Victoria Yeates as Bunty.

With the previously announced casting news, including Jude Law as young(er) Dumbledore, the cast is getting big enough to make up an entire Hogwarts class.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 apparates into theaters November 16, 2018.
