Fan Recreates X-MEN’S Cerebro in Unreal Engine 4

One of the most iconic elements of Marvel’s X-Men is Cerebro, the device built by Professor Charles Xavier to amplify is his natural telepathic abilities and enable him to locate mutants almost anywhere in the world. Cerebro was re-envisioned in 2000 for Bryan Singer’s live-action X-Men movie, and that version of Cerebro has become its most well-known incarnation.

Animation student Cameron Mitchell has painstakingly recreated the Cerebro from the X-Men movies using the Unreal Engine 4. In the video posted above, the familiar hallways of Xavier’s estate are explored, before the door to Cerebro is opened and Mitchell provides a close up look at Cerebro itself.

Even the interior panels of the Cerebro were included in Mitchell’s recreation.

“The project took a few months to work on, and it taught me a lot about texturing and normal mapping,” wrote Mitchell in his initial post on Polycount. “I did all of the modeling in Maya, textured it in Photoshop, and assembled, lit and rendered it in Unreal Engine 4.”

Although the X-Men movies would have you believe that only telepaths can use Cerebro, a few non-telepaths including Magneto and Kitty Pryde have used an upgraded Cerebro in the comics. But Cerebro has primarily been a tool used by Xavier, Jean Grey, Rachel Summers, Emma Frost (White Queen), Betsy Braddock (Psylocke), and the Stepford Cuckoos, all of whom are extremely powerful telepaths. The modern version of Cerebro has also been renamed Cerebra.
