Falcon, Farrell, FLASH Talk: The Week in Podcasts

We had a lot going on at the Nerdist Podcast Network this week, but, then, we always do. Such modesty we exhibit. Here’s the recap:

On the Nerdist Podcast this week, Anthony Mackie talked, of course, about being The Falcon, and there’s a lot about Captain America: Civil War and teasers about upcoming MCU flicks. But also about football, underwear (!), Trading Places, and Volvos. Yes, Matt’s involved.

Also on the Nerdist Podcast, in an episode that may or may not be already posted (at this early morning Friday writing, it’s still pending), Colin Farrell discussed The Lobster, In Bruges, growing up in public, kids, sobriety, and the meaning of life. It’s a unique glimpse into the mind of one of the most versatile actors in the business.

Our own Mike and Tom Eat Snacks co-host Tom Cavanagh just happens to be an actor, too. Perhaps you’ve seen him on Ed, or Scrubs, or a little show we like to call The Flash. He’s also a hockey fan, so he made a good guest for Puck Soup, on which he had plenty to say about not only the game on ice but his thoughts on why TV’s Flash isn’t the DC Cinematic Universe’s Flash.

Atlanta Braves (I have SUCH a hard time not typing that “Barves,” but, then, I’m a Phillies fan) General Manager John Coppolella joined Jonah for a talk about his career in baseball, walking away from a lucrative Intel job to try his luck for a lot less money in sports, and the pain and reward of rebuilding (none dare call it “tanking”) on The Jonah Keri Podcast. And on another baseball-y episode, Ben Lindbergh and Sam Miller, analytics guys to the core, talk about the experience putting their numbers-crunching abilities to use running an independent minor league team, which led to the best-seller “The Only Rule Is It Has To Work: Our Wild Experiment Building a New Kind of Baseball Team.”

On Clonecast, Orphan Black‘s James Frain — Ferdinand — is the guest, and – this is huge – we got the return of Jonah Raydio with guest Devin Faraci. Yes, it’s back.

Shane Black sat down to talk Lethal Weapon, Iron Man 3, his new The Nice Guys, and more on The Writers Panel. Meanwhile, W. Kamau Bell stopped by Chewin’ It to promote his new CNN show; Comedian Langston Belton returned to Comic Book Club with his thoughts on Captain America and why he’s #TeamIronMan; and comic and author Amber Tozer told of her youth in Colorado on The JV Club.

More guests: Comedian and writer Jessi Klein on You Made It Weird; Vancouver’s own Chris James on The Todd Glass Show; Rick Mitchell and Chris Reed from TMZ on Pro You; Clothing line BB Dakota Creative Director Katharine Brandes on Love, Alexi; Tech entrepreneur Tara Tiger Brown on The Mutant Season; DIrector/producer/writer Adam Shankman on Today We Learned; Comedian Steve Mazan on Cash Withdrawal;

Still more: On Bizarre States, Jessica and Bowser brought you the story of Yorkshire werewolf Old Stinker, while Alex, Alison, and Tom stepped into Bizarre States territory with the tale of a Liberian “ghost ship” that washed ashore on Half Hour Happy Hour. Jackie and Laurie covered Woody Allen, pregnant stand-up, whimpering from the audience, sleeping with other comics, politics, and Jackie’s dad’s comedy advice on The Jackie and Laurie Show; Bodhi and Jenna argued about marital sex — as usual — on Kicking and Screaming; and boss music – music accompanying boss characters, nor Boss Radio as in 93KHJ (for all you elderly L.A. folks and radio geeks out there) – was the theme on a new Legacy Music Hour.

You will, of course, find it all at the Nerdist Podcast Network homepage and Facebook page. Please go there, please subscribe, please, please, please. Please please me, please please please let me get what I want, Lord knows it would be the first time… okay, I’ll stop with the lyrics if you just go listen.
