Explore the Text-Based World of the Stephen Colbert Game

Stephen Colbert and his staff know that we’re all anxiously awaiting his return to television on September 8th, when he begins hosting The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. While the CBS show is still more than a month away, we’ve been thrilled that Colbert has taken to YouTube lately to tide us over with segments on the SCOTUS marriage equality decision, the recent photos of Pluto and you know, just having lunch with us.

It’s clear that the only thing that could have possibly been missing was a text-based game about Stephen being stuck in a man-sized cabinet. Oddly enough, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert just released a such a game.

As if that first page of the game isn’t enough reward, you soon start on an adventure through the Late Show offices where you stumble upon the titular man-sized cabinet. From there the adventure begins in a Narnia-esque world full of centaurs, monsters and castles.

Along the way, in what seems to be the Colbert writing staff stretching their comedy muscles, you can view a few odd-ball lists that you can’t help but imagine in Colbert’s voice. With the dry sense of humor we’ve missed so much we’re treated with a list of corporate holidays, Famous victims of “cabinet fever” and a t0-do list that is incredibly reminiscent of the old “The Word” segments:

To-Do List

  • Learn to use to-do list
  • Reconcile Quantum Theory with Relativity
  • Buy more subtle highlighters
  • Crank out another bestseller (speedboat is making weird noise)
  • Continue sustaining illusion of crop circles
  • Save cheerleader, world
  • See Entourage movie again
  • Work in late late one night, use eyes to behold eerie sight
  • Do the mash
  • Do the Monster Mash
  • Steal Christmas
  • Find out what time TV show on
  • Hire body double(s)
  • Create sand mandala
  • Destroy sand mandala
  • Create sand mandala
  • Personally rewire new theater

While it’s tempting to write a play by play walk-through of the entire game, we don’t want to spoil the adventure. See if you can escape the man-sized cabinet here.

Did you escape? If not, how are you reading this!? Let us know in the comments below!
