Everything You Need to Know About the DIABLO Series

When Blizzard decided to send us all to hell on New Years Eve 1996, I doubt they could have imagined things would pan out so well. Diablo is one of the most popular franchises the studio has ever produced, boasting over 50 million copies sold across the globe. (You’d think the world was full of weird Satanists given gamers’ alacrity to visit the underworld.) But you don’t become a genre-defining dungeon crawler franchise without building a dense history that’s full of fun facts and an intense narrative that could fill a library shelf. Did you know Diablo was originally supposed to be a turn-based RPG rendered fully in claymation?

These are the little nuggets we’re here to deliver you in our Quest to BlizzCon series: a collection of everything you need to know about your favorite Blizzard properties. Whether you’ve been spell casting and looting since the days of Griswold the Blacksmith, or are donning your Demon Hunter garbs as new blood in Tristam, the lore of Diablo is so dense that you’ll surely discover something new today. So kick back, learn everything you need to know about the Diablo franchise, and remember to never believe player killers who randomly enter your room asking for town portals.
