Every Character Ever Loves Tom Jones

They always tell you to make business cards if you’re going to promote yourself. But, like, who am I, Patrick Bateman? If it’s me, I think you’re gonna need more to catch someone’s eye these days, something with a little more panache. That’s hard to do if you’re just Joe Businessman (awesome name, P.S.), but if you’re an animation company and production company, you have every skill you need to make a gorgeous calling card perfect for sharing on the ol’ internet. A billion times better than any bone-colored rectangle of stiff paper, or even a traditional reel.

A GIF of a dozen or more characters, both famous and not, dancing “The Carlton” set to the music of Tom Jones. This is what the internet was created for. This might even be why Tom Jones recorded the song “It’s Not Unusual.” When he recorded the song, back in 1965, as a young, unknown Welsh singer looking to make it big, he foresaw the GIFable potential and made it his breakout. His full name is Thomas Nostradamus Jones after all. (No it isn’t.) It’s 14 seconds of beauty.

This is the work of two companies: the French animation studio WIZZdesign and the NYC-based boutique production company Blacklist. It was first posted to the Blacklist’s Facebook page as part of their weekly GIF initiative, which pairs with a different studio to create a new and awesome moving image, so if you like this and want to see more, you are in a lot of luck.

One of the hardest things I’ve ever attempted was trying to screen shot this GIF to grab some of these images. There are funny versions of DragonBall Z‘s Goku and a weird, not-quite-right version of a Ninja Turtle (Michelangelo’s coloring but Raphael’s weapons?), a creepy cut-out version of Hulk Hogan, and other such images that I can’t put my finger on but are clearly something, even if just weird. By no means complete, below you can find some of my favorites, and post some of your favorite screengrabs in the comments below!
