The night is dark and full of aftershows, my dudes â and now we can add Game of Thrones to the seemingly unending list of fan favorites with after-chatters.
Like the recently announced After the Black aftershow before it (that one’s for Orphan Black though), HBO has announced its own show, After the Thrones, in conjunction with their recent partnership with Bill Simmons. The former Grantland EIC inked a deal with the network last year, and this show seems to be the first of many ventures that are apart of it.
The show will be hosted by longtime Thrones podcastersâand former GrantlandersâAndy Greenwald and Chris Ryan, whose Watch the Thrones ‘cast has evolved into an overall-TV-centric series called The Watch on Simmons’ latest site, The Ringer. After the Thrones will begin coverage with the season premiere on April 24, where each episode will be available on Mondays on HBO NOW, HBO GO, and HBO On Demandâas well as other affiliate portals (though we’re unsure what that means as of yet). It will also air on the main HBO channel, though there’s no confirmed date or time for that, either.
Aftershows are hardly a new phenomenon: we know this guy named Chris who’s done quite a few of them for AMC, for example. But their increased popularity and existence is an indication of how much of the cultural conversation is shaped by fan discussion of television beyond the water cooler at work the next morning.
Which we’re sure will come in handy when the “biggest battle ever” goes down in S6:
