Emily Browning Will Play AMERICAN GODS’ Laura Moon

With Bryan Fuller on board, we knew American Gods was going to be good. The Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s novel is one of our most anticipated new series, and its casting choices have only strengthened that excitement. Like the news that Emily Browning will join Ricky Whittle and Ian McShane as Laura Moon.

Browning will play Shadow Moon (Whittle)’s wife on the series—but hers isn’t a role that’s as simple as all that (no spoilers—yet).

Of the casting, Gaiman said via press release, “I’ve been fascinated by Emily Browning since A Series of Unfortunate Events. She has a challenge ahead of her: Laura is a tricky character, and the Laura on the screen is even trickier and more dangerous than the one on the page. She’s going to have a wonderful time bringing Laura to life.”

Trickier and more dangerous? Sounds like nothing is going to stop her brutal ways, huh?

Playing into Laura’s path in the series Bryan Fuller and Michael Green both said in the press release, “You don’t need a magical coin when you have Emily Browning. She brings a fascinating spark of life to every role she inhabits and we are tickled she will be lighting up Laura Moon and bringing her to life in more ways than one on American Gods.”

OK, now we’re going to get into story spoilers—so proceed with caution! Browning joins the previously cast McShane and The 100‘s Whittle who will play Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon, respectively. Laura Moon is actually Shadow Moon’s wife, waiting for his release from prison. “Little does she know,” the press release reads, “that she will go on an unexpected journey that leads her to an epiphany about her relationship and affords her a second chance to get things right.”
