Is Xbox One X the PlayStation 4 Killer?

E3 is here, and there have already been shots fired in the ongoing console wars between Microsoft and Sony. Project Scorpio has been revealed as the Xbox One X, and it may just be the most powerful home console ever released. And it just might have what it takes to wrest the throne away from Playstation 4.

Join senior editor Dan Casey as he takes an in-depth look at the arrival of the Xbox One X and what it means for both Microsoft and Sony going forward. The Xbox One X is arriving in stores with a $499 asking price, which is $100 higher than the PlayStation 4 Pro. However, the Xbox One X also has significantly more impressive specs than the PS4 Pro.

Are those specs enough to justify paying $100 more for the new iteration of the Xbox? A 10% faster CPU and an additional 4 GDDR5 of ram may not be enough for some players. That’s why the console wars almost always come down to who has the best games. This time, Xbox One X may have the advantage, with exclusive titles like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Ashen, and The Artful Escape. That’s in addition to exclusivity windows for State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3, and Cuphead.

When it comes to winning the hearts and minds of gamers, the present and the future are always important. But of the two companies, Microsoft seems poised to take care of nostalgic gamers as well. While PlayStation Europe’s Jim Ryan recently questioned the value of backwards compatibility on the record, one of the biggest cheers at the Xbox E3 presentation was the news that the original Xbox titles are joining the Xbox 360 titles currently compatible on the Xbox One. That would allow Xbox One X owners to play three console generations on a single box.

Xbox One X is launching in November, which means we’ll see this battle play out in just under half a year. And during this holiday season, we may see gamers crown a new king of the consoles.
