DUCKTALES Theme Gets a Rock-Metal Cover by Jonathan Young

Thirty years ago this month, Disney’s DuckTales brought the classic characters and stories by Carl Barks to television, yielding perhaps one of the catchiest theme songs of all time. The show has become so heavily identified with Mark Mueller’s original tune that even the new remake on Disney XD kept the theme. While there’s still a few weeks before the DuckTales reboot series begin airing regularly, there’s a new cover out that captures the spirit of the original while giving it a brand new spin.

Jonathan Young’s cover of the DuckTales theme is a bit hard to classify. It’s not quite metal or rock, but it has its own unique spin on the song. Plus, it’s fun to watch him sing the tune while performing the various instruments. The Donald Duck hat was also a nice touch.

The first two episodes of the DuckTales revival premiered last month, and we really loved it. The animation style does take some getting used to, but this feels more like the classic Barks take on the characters. And this time, Donald Duck isn’t just a special guest star. Felicia Barton’s rendition on the DuckTales theme is also growing on us, and the show is embracing the song big time (so much so that the pilot episode was actually called “Woo-oo!”).

The first season will officially begin on September 23 on Disney XD. You can find more of Young’s music on his YouTube channel, including several Disney covers that we really enjoyed.
