DUCKTALES’ Main Title Sequence is All Kinds of Comic Booky

When I was a wee bairn (though I was never all that small, to be perfectly frank), I vividly remember the joy and thrill I’d receive from the theme music to my favorite cartoons—a great many of which came courtesy of Disney. Why, without Gummi Bears I’d never have bounced here and there and everywhere; would never have gotten dangerous without Darkwing Duck; and never made a series of vaguely sinister horn noises without Gargoyles. But it was really DuckTales‘ theme song that was the most iconic, and I’m taken back to childhood with the opening theme to the brand new version of the show.

Most of what we’ve seen so far from the updated Disney XD version of DuckTales has been keeping what people have always loved about the show and making it work for children of today. (And adults, because let’s be honest, we’re totally gonna watch this show when it premieres.) So in addition to updating the voice cast with people like David Tennant, Kate Micucci, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, we also get to have an updated—though incredibly faithful—rendition of the classic theme music. We still don’t even care that we’re not sure what constitutes a “duck blur.”

But by far one of the coolest things about the above opening credits sequence is how much it takes from the classic comics as well, literally having Unka Scrooge and his nephews and friends jumping out of panels and through stories. Really cool effect, and it makes this new version of the show feel like it has a serialized adventure quality, which naturally we all really love.

We can’t wait to see more from Scrooge, Donald, Launchpad, Webby, Huey, Dewey, & Louie, and the whole rest of the DuckTales crew when the TV movie and series premiere on Saturday, August 12 and Saturday, September 23, respectively, only on Disney XD.
