Drake Parodies “Hotline Bling” in Super Bowl Ad

Great news: Drake will be playing the Super Bowl this weekend! Well, he’ll be playing during the Super Bowl, and by that, we mean that Drake will appear in a Super Bowl commercial that will play during the game. Still exciting!

It’s a full-on “Hotling Bling” revival, as the clip features Drake on the set of the music video shoot, doing his viral dad-dancing in the color-shifting box-room-thing, when he gets bombarded by phone company executives who demand a series of absurd, legalese changes to the song’s lyrics.

You would think an artist of Drake’s integrity and stature wouldn’t stand for this sort of corporate dabbling, but it turns out that he is, going as far as to say that he loves changes and doesn’t think they ruin the integrity of the song at all. Apparently, ever since Drake left the city, he started caring less and selling out more: That’s where the money is!

Truth be told, it’s a fun ad from T-Mobile that mocks the policies of competing phone companies, like how streaming music will result in increased data charges. Sure, Drake did actually co-opt his song to appease corporate interests, but can you call it selling out if it’s used in a fun and creative way? We say no, and we think this could be one of the more fun ads that airs during the game.

Let us know in the comments if you agree, or if you prefer Key and Peele‘s or Pokémon’s ads.
