Social Media Helps a DRAGON BALL Fan Name His Son After Goku

For over 30 years, fans have followed the adventures of Son Goku in Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball, which has unfolded in manga, anime, video games, and even live-action films. Goku’s got a lot of fans around the world, but there’s at least one man who wants to take his devotion to the next level by naming his son after Goku. Meet Carlos Sanchez, a father-to-be who went on Facebook last week with a message for Dragon Ball fans everywhere. Sanchez made a deal with his wife that stipulated he would get his way if his photo received over one million likes. As you can see below, the final tally was over 1.5 million likes.

We first noticed this story at Kotaku, which included a follow-up message from Carlos and his wife that stated she would abide by the terms of the original deal. So in just a few months, the world will be introduced to Goku Sanchez.

Unlike other comic icons who go by Peter, Clark, Bruce, or even Logan, it’s not like young Goku has plausible deniability about where his name came from. In other words, this kid will be branded by Dragon Ball for life. We can only hope that Goku’s name wins him the popularity it deserves, and we wish him all the best throughout his life. And if he happens to develop Super Saiyan powers, then all we ask is that he save the world as often as possible.
