DOOM’S BFG Is Even More Badass In Real Life

The first time we saw the BFG (Big F’in Gun) in DOOM, our jaw dropped. Fast-forward to 2016, and the BFG is still one of the most recognizable weapons in video game history, so much so that Steven Spielberg’s movie about a very different BFG is having trouble with acronym-association. So it’s not surprising that MyMiniFactory set out to build a 1:1 scale 3D printed demon-slaying BFG. What can’t these printers do?

As you’ll see, the final product is rather awe-inspiring, but the process of bringing the iconic video game item to life is equally as impressive. The team spent roughly 35 hours merely designing the model, but it took about 1,000 hours of 3D printing! The whole thing was split into over 70 pieces (made more efficiently by printing them out using several printers). Furthermore, some of the pieces had to be continuously printed for nearly a month. Once all of that was completed, the team had to assemble and paint all the pieces. The finished product is the best BFG replica this (or the demon world) has ever seen!

Feast your eyes on the process of bringing the BFG to life above! And if you’ve yet to go play the latest DOOM, I can’t recommend it enough. Only then can you really appreciate this amazing 1:1 replica.

Did you play the latest DOOM release? If not, what are you waiting for? It’s easily one of the best games this year. Did you ever think 3D-printing could produce such a badass item? What other video game item would you like to be brought to life in this same manner? Go play DOOM (if you’re old enough, of course), and let us know what you think in the comments below!
