DOCTOR WHO Star Matt Smith Eyed for Lead in HARRY POTTER Spin-off

Forget bowties; mythical creatures are cool! Ever since it was announced that Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling were teaming up to bring us back to the world of Harry Potter in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, our nerdy brains have been whirring faster than the Golden Snitch as we tried to track down the details. So far, all that we know is that Warner Bros. wants to make the film a trilogy, Deathly Hallows director David Yates will helm the project, and J.K. Rowling herself will be writing the screenplay. But who could play the writer of the eponymous textbook, Newt Scamander? According to the latest intel, none other than the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, is being eyed for the role. Considering that the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) played Barty Crouch Jr., it only makes sense that they’d introduce even more Doctors to the Potter-verse.

So saddle up your Nimbus 2000, fly right past the TARDIS, and join Jessica Chobot for a Nerdist News special report in which we explain everything you need to know about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. After that, take a little timey-wimey to let us know what you think of Matt Smith playing Newt Scamander, and stay tuned to Nerdist.com for even more Nerdist News.

I’m not a huge fan of 11 but he would be ok but David Tennant or Peter Capalidi would be awesome!! So yeah

  2. Kira says:

    HE WILL BE PERFECT! Geronimooooo!

  3. a trilogy is also a bad idea says:

Jfc This is a god awful idea

  4. Vanessa says:

If Matt Smith is the older version of Harry Potter I think Karen Gillan would be great as the grown up Ginny Potter (née Weasley).

  5. b says:

dr. who and harry potter have already shared actors. tennant played barty crouch.

  6. Bee says:

    Yaaaaaassssss. He’s perfect.

  7. cari says:

Yes!  I tweeted this suggestion last October! @CariSays

  8. The42ndDoctor says:

    Totally see it 😀 YAAAAAAAAAS

  9. Sam says:

But will he be wearing a bow-tie?

  10. No. Just no says:

Good lord I couldn’t think of a worse pairing. Smith ruined Doctor Who I pray they dont let him ruin Harry Potter too.

  11. DRS says:

That would be so awesome.  I hope he gets it. I think he would be perfect.

  12. Ari says:

    HE’D BE AWESOME! 😀

  13. Daniel says:

I’d swaer in the past that I won’t see or read anything more about Harry Potter (still at odds with J.K. Rowlinf for killing all the cool characters of her saga), but this might change it… I just love Matt Smith

  14. Jami says:

I vote Matt Smith in a spin-off about the Marauder school years

  15. Noelle says:

of course Matt Smith is perfect for the wizarding world.  He’s perfect for everything.

  16. Sylana says:

Why not? Hurt and Tennant have already appeared in HP, so it’s hardly the first crossover.
Just get McGann and Eccleston in there somewhere, and you’ll have the whole new Who crew.

    • Sylana says:

      And Capaldi.  Can’t forget 12. 🙂

      • katey says:

Can’t forget 14. Matt’s regeneration was number 13. John Hurt was 9. Chris Eccleston was 10. David Tennant was 11 and 12.

        • Ari says:

Actually, chris’s was nine, David’s ten and Matt’s 11. The human version isn’t considered 11 even david said that.

        • Rayven says:

Nooooooo David Tennant was only 10 not 11 and 12. The other regenerations meaning Chris-Peter don’t count John hurt as a Doctor due to him calling himself The War Doctor meaning there are only 12 doctors counting The War Doctor.

        • ACyaManCan says:

This is hardly the place for this pallid discussion. The horse is dead already. In relevant news, Smith is heart catching-ly suited for this. Quirky might be his middle name.

  17. jaigrrl says:

Considering he’s already found dinosaurs…..on a Spaceship; I think Matt Smith will be able to handle Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them.

  18. Ali says:

He could certainly be good in the role, but we’re talking about the grandfather in law of Luna Lovegood, here. Is he quirky enough? Also, I too have a Deathly Hallows tat so I love you.
