DOCTOR WHO Comics Now Going to Titan

After five years of new ongoing comics with IDW Publications, the license for BBC’s Doctor Who will be heading over to Titan Comics, the even indie-er label known for sci-fi books like A1 and Tank Girl and also officially licensed books featuring Sherlock Holmes and James Bond. The announcement came on Tuesday with the promise of a new rash of one-off adventures with the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors and, once his first series premieres, the Twelfth Doctor, in 2014. The new production team and creative staff are said to be announced in the coming weeks.

The IDW books ended their run with the 2013 Annual by Paul Cornell. Since they began, the series saw work by Tony Lee, Matthew Dow Smith, Gary Russell, Justin Richards, and Jimmy Broxton. During the IDW run, there was also a crossover between Doctor Who and Star Trek: The Next Generation called Assimilation 2, in which the Borg and the Cybermen team up. The jerks.

What do you think of this news? Are you excited for the Doctor Who comics to regenerate along with the show? What were your favorite runs of the books? Let us know below!

I just hope they can keep up the excellent storytelling the folks at IDW did over the years. They truly created some really compelling work, Scott Tipton did a remarkable job on the crossover with Trek, the big anniversary miniseries was really great too (with covers by Dave Sim!!!)
Titan, you have very large shoes to fill. VERY large.

  2. The Doctor's Pants says:

Titan Comics/Titan Magazine are the publishing front for Forbidden Planet stores in the UK. They did a Torchwood comic a few years back, that got shit-canned after 5 or 6 issues.
They also did a bunch of shitty TV show tie-in magazines of Charmed, Buffy and Torchwood.

Most of their magazines were full of adverts for Forbidden Planet, and the articles also took great detail in mentioning Forbidden Planet and how great they were.

They were seen by many as just glorified catalogues for Forbidden Planet and their online mail-order service.

I’ll lay money that the comic will be a good 50% ads for Forbidden Planet and their online store (which will piss off Underground Toys who are the US distributor of Doctor Who merchandise.)

“[…] in which the Borg and the Cybermen team up. The jerks.” Got a laugh out of me. Makes reading these press-releasy kind of news fun.
