DOCTOR STRANGE Gets a Mystical 8-Bit Makeover

If you frequent this site, chances are you’ve seen us absolutely fawn over almost everything Cinefix creates. It’s impossible to pick the best recurring segment on their YouTube channel but what we can say that their 8-Bit Cinema series is truly one of our favorites. Our love of this series continues with their recent 8-bit take on Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

As is the case with all their classical gaming recreations, the finer points of the film are covered in just a few minutes. This time around, it appears Cinefix dug deep into their graphic design grab bag (that’s how computers work, right?) and pulled out some characters that bear a striking resemblance to the Mega Man games of yore. We follow a tiny goatee’d (should be a verb, we know) version of Stephen Strange along his journey from a sports car-crashing doctor to a Dormammu-defeating superhero. We even get to see his astral form as he defeats one of Kaecilius’ followers and the brain-warping fight sequence in the Mirror Dimension.

We can’t help but giggle at how well these graphics work with Strange once he acquires the Cloak of Levitation. We can’t ask for a better use of old-school gaming graphics than the mid-jump stance of Mega Man utilized so perfectly as a flying pose of the Sorcerer Supreme.
