In just a few months, the Justice League movie will unite Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg and… yes, Superman. Yeah, no one really thought that the Man of Steel would stay dead after the ending of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But there’s at least one thing that won’t be following Clark Kent out of the grave: Henry Cavill‘s epic mustache. Earlier this week, word broke that in the interest of Justice League reshoots, Warner Bros. will spend time and money to digitally erase Cavill’s facial hair, which he’s grown for a role in the currently-shooting Mission: Impossible 6. Today’s Nerdist News is all about the Justice League‘s stach-gate, and the occasionally humorous fallout.
Join host and the only woman with a kryptonite razor blade, Jessica Chobot, as she looks at the massive response to the initial reports about Cavill’s mustache. Perhaps fans find it inherently ridiculous that Superman must remain free of facial hair at all times, even when he’s back from the dead. The problem arises from two key areas: the Justice League reshoots are more extensive than we were originally led to believe, and the director of MI6, Christopher McQuarrie, has been understandably reluctant to let the Justice League‘s facial problems derail his movie as well.
In just a few days, this has led to countless memes and fan art with Superman rockin’ a stache–some of his fellow Justice League members have endured the trend as well. Even Wonder Woman has been pictured with a mustache of her own, as a sign of virtue. As for Cavill, he’s taking the entire incident in stride and in good humor, as seen in his Instagram post below.
But if you want to get a better idea of what Cavill looks like now, his follow up post reveals the mustache in all of its glory:
All hail the stache of steel! Justice League may not be coming until November, but we’re sure it will inspire years of fun as fans attempt to guess which scenes feature Cavill’ naturally shaven face, and which are CGI enhanced.
