Disney Parks to Begin Constuction of STAR WARS Land in April

Are we jumping at any scrap of news about Disney Parks’ upcoming Star Wars-themed additions? Um, obviously. A special that recently aired on ABC, The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60, brought new concept art and some vague details about the immersive nature of the expansions. It’s an ambitious project that won’t bear fruit anytime soon, but we now know when Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios are officially breaking soon to be galactic ground and beginning construction on their respective Star Wars lands: April!

Disney CEO Bob Iger provided the update on Thursday during the Walt Disney Co. annual shareholder meeting, where he said construction will begin on Star Wars lands in both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. They have 14 acres of land to fill with a street market, cantina, and what looks like an epic E-ticket level Millennium Falcon attraction among other offerings. Iger didn’t offer any other details (of course), but he did say, “We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that will transport guests into the Star Wars story.” Oh, vague but enthusiastic comments, you are my favorite.

In Disneyland in Anaheim, California, preparation for construction began in January. The park closed attractions such as the Disneyland Railroad (temporary) and the Big Thunder Ranch (permanently) to begin the makeover. In Orlando, Florida’s Hollywood Studios, closures are coming in early April for the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show and other attractions.

Are you okay with the changes Star Wars land is causing within the parks? Let me know your opinions in the comments.
