Next year, Disneyland and Walt Disney World will invite fans to explore Batuu, the featured planet in the highly anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge expansion. Disneyland’s attraction is expected to open first, and the company has released drone footage of its Galaxy’s Edge construction site in Anaheim. It’s still far from ready, but the otherworldly buildings and terrain are beginning to take shape.
It’s difficult to identify the attractions from this brief glimpse behind-the-scenes, but we can see the hanger that will be home to the Millennium Falcon ride. Early indications are that visitors will be able to assume different responsibilities on the ship while undertaking a secret mission. The success of that mission will actually affect how riders are received in other areas of the park, including the cantina.
The large castle-like structure is also visible in the new video, although we aren’t quite sure which attraction it will hold. What we do know is that Disney Imagineers decided to set Galaxy’s Edge on a new planet in order for fans to experience a unique narrative beyond the films. That said, it’s also been revealed that the battle between the First Order and the Resistance will play out in the background of the park, and in at least one of the attractions. That seems to suggest that the setting will be lined up with the current trilogy. But we’ll find out for sure when Galaxy’s Edge opens in 2019.
