Disney Characters Come to Life And Surprise Shoppers

Shoppers at the Westfield Sunrise mall in Massapequa, New York, recently got quite the surprise. Running errands or purchasing new clothes turned into a magical day out as Disney brought in some familiar faces to interact with passersby and help them show their Disney Side. The characters were hidden behind the opaque windows of the “Umbra Penumbra Magic Shop” established in 1955. The year matches the year Disneyland opened, and umbra and penumbra are two parts of a shadow. A hidden camera captured the reactions of unsuspecting shoppers reacting to the interactive silhouettes:

The whole stunt puts a big ol’ smile on my face. I find it especially cool since they not only brought in classic characters like Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Minnie Mouse, and more but featured Woody and Buzz from Toy Story, Elsa, Anna, and Olaf from Frozen, and lots of princesses. The characters mimic the people walking by and in some cases they pull out some rather impressive dance moves.

Of course the extra special moment comes when the actual characters emerge from behind the panel and greet the shoppers. The gleeful looks you see on the faces in the crowd? That essentially captures why Disney is so beloved. Look at those grins.

It takes a lot to get me to go to the mall (sorry, Robin Sparkles), and I am a fan of the idea of being rewarded with the appearance of Disney characters. Since they’re probably not touring every mall, I’d love to see a permanent panel like this one installed in one of their parks.

    Why does this site make the article image so big, but use the second smallest video embed possible?  Once I click on an article to check out a video, it should be the first thing I see and be big.  
    I always click on the image thinking it’s the video player.  I don’t work for them, but I am a frequent user of BadAssDigest and when they have an article about a video, its the first thing you see.  
    Just some constructive criticism from a reader.
