Discover the Fate of the Dwarves After THE HOBBIT

In J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, the title character joined a company of thirteen dwarves to journey to the Lonely Mountain and reclaim their kingdom from the dragon Smaug. Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson kept all 13 dwarves in his adaptation of The Hobbit.

Over the course of three films, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) and Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) were accompanied by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and his fellow dwarves: Balin (Ken Stott), Bifur (William Kircher), Bofur (James Nesbitt), Bombur (Stephen Hunter), Dori (Mark Hadlow), Dwalin (Graham McTavish), Fíli (Dean O’Gorman), Glóin (Peter Hambleton), Kíli (Aidan Turner), Nori (Jed Brophy), Óin (John Callen), and Ori (Adam Brown).

In The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies, the final fates of Thorin, Fili, and Kili were depicted on screen. But the remaining dwarves didn’t get a definitive ending in the movie. Tolkien actually gave the fate of the dwarves considerable thought and he revealed what happened to them after their quest in his appendices from Return of the King.

The video posted above takes the information from Tolkien’s appendices and lays out the fates of the dwarves one-by-one. Some of them appeared in The Fellowship of the Ring, but not in the happiest of ways. Some of the dwarves even lived to enjoy their newfound wealth, and the Lonely Mountain wasn’t so lonely after that.

Which of the dwarves from The Hobbit were your favorites? Sing a jaunty tune and let your voices be heard in the comment section below!
