DIRK GENTLY Gets a New Teaser and Premiere Date

This fall, everything is connected in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, a new original BBC America series based upon the novels by Douglas Adams. Now, the show finally has a release date!

Dirk Gently will premiere on Saturday, October 22; and BBC America has released a new promo video for the series which offers an intense and even disorienting taste of things to come as the seemingly random elements of a mystery are laid out for us. Samuel Barnett plays the title character, who isn’t exactly a detective in the traditional sense. Instead of hunting down clues, Dirk Gently has a talent for finding “connections” and he calls himself a “Holistic Detective.” Elijah Wood co-stars in the series as Todd, a loner who immediately rejects the idea of playing Watson to Dirk’s Sherlock. But it’s not like Todd has any say in the matter.

BBC America also re-released the Dirk Gently Comic-Con reel, which offers a better example of the tone of the series.

As we can see in the footage, Todd was working for a hotel when one of the guests was murdered. That sends Todd into Dirk’s orbit, and it thrusts both of them into a “mind-bending mystery.” Todd may not initially believe in Dirk’s abilities, but he’s bound to come around eventually, since this storyline will unfold across the first season.

Hannah Marks co-stars in Dirk Gently alongside Jade Eshete, Fiona Dourif, Dustin Milligan, Miguel Sandoval, and Richard Schiff. Fan-favorite screenwriter Max Landis developed the Dirk Gently TV series and is also executive producing it. Galaxy Quest helmer Dean Parisot is directing the first two episodes of this series.
