Develop Intense Anxiety with a New “Gravity” Trailer

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from director Alfonso Cuarón; although he’s been working steadily as a producer, his last film as writer-director was 2006’s excellent Children of Men. Fortunately for us, our patience is being rewarded with the unnervingly tense, stunningly shot, stranded-in-space thriller Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as two astronauts who find themselves adrift in space, running out of oxygen and generally staring into the infinite void of outer space. In short, this is not a lighthearted romp and the new trailer, entitled “I’ve Got You”, is a wonderful mix of the majesty of viewing Earth from orbit with the panic attack-inducing mayhem of spiraling out of control in open space. While there are sound effects aplenty in this trailer, it’s worth wondering whether they’ll make it into the final cut, given that Cuarón reminded the crowd at Comic-Con’s Hall H that “there’s no sound in space.” Regardless of whether it’ll be a stripped down, mostly silent experience, these trailers are guaranteed to release alternating floods of endorphins and whatever chemical makes you shit your pants in abject terror.

It’s also worth noting that the trailers work as an extended sequence of sorts, so if you haven’t seen “Detached” or “Drifting,” I suggest you watch those two first.

And in case you missed it earlier today, be sure to check out Chris Hardwick’s sit-down interview with director Alfonso Cuarón and star Sandra Bullock. It’s equally as terrifying as the trailers if you have a deep-seated fear of thoughtful, insightful questions about upcoming films.

So, there you have it, folks! Gravity enters your local theater’s orbit on October 4th, so you have plenty of time to stock up on astronaut ice cream and stress balls. Are you excited for the film? Let us know in the comments below!

these trailers all look so incredible… i just hope they’re not giving away too much… but dang… so beautiful…

When I saw “Drifting” in theaters, I have to admit I laughed. It looked so ridiculous. Neat concept, but ridiculous. I watched “Detached” and my shoulder hurt from all the tension! Now after watching the third segment, I can’t wait until October. It looks really stellar. And who doesn’t think space is scary!?!
