DESTINY Launch Trailer: ‘They’ve Never Seen Anything Like You’

Hey, it’s the launch trailer for Destiny – and Bungie has packed it with a bunch of gampeplay and gunplay.

The futuristic shooter from the Halo creators has its own accolades trailer (apparently it’s won or been nominated for over 180 awards since the studio started showing it off and letting gamers get their hands on the beta). And in about three weeks, gamers will be able to get their hands on the proper, finished version of the game to see what all of the chatter has been about.

This is your super high-level look at the game with only the barest hints of its story. For those not in the know, Destiny is set some years in the future, after the mysterious structure called the Traveler came to Earth and changed the course of human history. Technology was improved and the species took a couple of leaps up the evolutionary ladder. Then the enemies of the Traveler arrived, laying waste to the planet. Destiny puts you in the role of one of its gun-toting Guardians, tasked with investigating the mysteries of the Traveler on Earth and planets beyond, while protecting the last safe city.

For Bungie fans, all of the capitalized, formal race/role names will sound familiar (remember Elites, Grunts, and Jackals), and the fiction sounds suitably loopy and cosmic, complete with ancient aliens and everything.

As for the gameplay – well, it’s kind of sort of an MMO, kind of a traditional shooter with a little bit of that Borderlands vibe married to the Bungie aesthetic. For some of you, that combination of words might just be the best thing you’ve heard all week.

Destiny will be coming to the Xbox One, PS4, PS3, and Xbox 360 on September 9.
