Just having an extra scene after a movie is like, so 2015. Nope, apparently these days, even the trailers for movies have their own post-credits sequence. Or at least they do in Japan, as evidenced by this trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse, which hits theaters in that country on August 11.
The trailer is pretty much the one we’ve all seen, but with a little added bonus featuring a certain “Merc with a Mouth” at the end. In a savvy marketing move, Fox’ team put together this Japanese trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse which featured a cameo appearance by Deadpool, as voiced by Ryan Reynolds to promote the release of that film which came out on June 1st. The trailer has now shown up online, and you watch the whole thing above.
In his traditional irreverent style (and in English), Deadpool makes a crack about how “not everyone makes it to the end of a Fox movie.” Maybe they sensed how audiences were going to react to Independence Day: Resurgence (too soon)? Deadpool also makes cracks about the 1980s setting of the movie, and ironically seems to have more fun with that specific time period than Bryan Singer did when making the actual movie. (Seriously, with like three blue people in that movie, they never thought to include ’80s new wave classic song “Blue Monday” from New Order? That one’s a no-brainer, right??)
I’m not entirely sure how much having Deadpool show up at th end of the X-Men trailer made a big difference in the end result of that movie’s total box office in Japan, but you’ve got to give Fox credit for tryong something a little outsdide the box.
What do you think of Deadpool/Ryan Reynolds showing up at the end of the X-Men Apocalypse to help promote that movie? Let us know down below in the comments.
