DEADPOOL 2099 Will Alternate with Ongoing DEADPOOL Comic

Last week, Marvel introduced readers to the character Deadpool 2099 within the pages of Deadpool # 6. As it turns out, she’ll be sticking around in the long term! Marvel has announced that Deadpool 2099 will be featured in the Deadpool ongoing series in single issue stories set between the present day Deadpool story arcs.

“We had a lot of fun with it, and I’m hoping readers will be surprised with how much connective tissue this arc shares with our current ongoing story,” said Deadpool writer Gerry Duggan during an interview with Comic Book Resources.” “There was too much story for just one issue to contain. Too many secrets to reveal, and too many new ideas and characters to introduce… or re-introduce. Deadpool 2099 is a family affair. See you in the future.”

Deadpool 2009 is Warda Wilson, the daughter of Wade Wilson/Deadpool and his succubus bride Shiklah. Her creation is a play on the classic Marvel 2099 comic line from the ‘90s that introduced future versions of Spider-Man, the X-Men, and other Marvel heroes.

Judging from Deadpool 2099’s initial appearance in issue 6’s flash forward story, she’s got a very strained relationship with her father. Warda apparently imprisoned her aged dad and tortured him—really, not that far from the way that Deadpool treated Blind Al in the first Deadpool series. It’s also apparent that Warda has a grudge against Deadpool over the fate of her mother.

We’ll see the next Deadpool 2099 story in Deadpool # 12, which will be released later this year. Artist Scott Koblish’s designs for Deadpool 2099 can be seen in the gallery below.
