DEADPOOL 2 Exclusive: Dopinder is Coming Back For the Sequel!

Earlier today, Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick dropped by Nerdist HQ for a special Facebook Live Q&A. And while the duo once again confirmed that the script for Deadpool 2 hasn’t been finished yet, they did offer at least one tantalizing tidbit for the sequel: Karan Soni will be back as the fan-favorite character, Dopinder!

During the Q&A, Wenick told us that “I would say that the relationship between Dopinder and Deadpool was the most fun for me. I love that relationship and I love that character. And he’ll be in the sequel.”

We’re extremely happy to hear that, as Soni was definitely one of the funnier supporting actors in the film. Within the movie, Dopinder was the cab driver who had the misfortune of driving Deadpool into battle on two occasions. However, both men bonded in the car, and Dopinder shared details about his troubled love and the way he lost the woman he loved to his cousin, Bandhu. When Dopinder reappeared late in the film, he had embraced his inner Deadpool and stuffed Bandhu in the trunk of his cab. Deadpool was actually quite happy about Dopinder’s actions, but he inadvertently played a role in exposing Dopinder with a phone call about the weapons he accidentally left in the car.

Since we’re pretty sure that Deadpool 2 isn’t a gritty prison drama, it probably means that Dopinder won’t be rotting in a jail somewhere. But will Dopinder blame Deadpool for what happened, or will they be best buddies once again? We’ll find out sometime in 2018…we hope.
