DEADPOOL 2 is Officially Happening with Ryan Reynolds

Hold onto your chimichangas, folks: Deadpool 2 is officially a go.

The news is coming out of CinemaCon, according to Variety, but is about as far from a surprise as you could be. To put it mildly, Deadpool‘s popularity kinda/sorta changed the game for what a superhero movie could be, and its bangarang box office numbers on a teeny, tiny budget all-but-solidified a mouthy merc franchise was being born. (Plus there was that whole post-credits sequence thing that said it would be so.)

But perhaps most exciting is the confirmation that the sequel will see the return of director Tim Miller, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and star Ryan Reynolds. (As if it could be done with any other team.) And, yes, Cable will join in on all the foulmouthed, meta fun for the sequel.

Nerdist has reached out for independent confirmation but had yet to hear back at the time of publication.

If you are the one person who didn’t see the first film, the story focused on former Special Forces op-turned-mercenary Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) whose life goes to shit when he seeks an unorthodox cancer therapy. While Wade is supposed to be undergoing treatment, the evil scientist Ajax (Ed Skrein) tortures, disfigures, and ultimately transforms Wade into Deadpool. The poor, disfigured, hilarious antihero then makes it his mission to hunt Ajax down, reclaim his life, and maybe even make a few friends along the way (like Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead). It’s a real charmer.

But what do you think about the official confirmation? Have any other thoughts or theories about what the sequel could be? Let us know in the comments below.

Here are all the killer Easter Eggs you missed while watching Deadpool:
