DC v Marvel: Who Will Win 2016?

As 2015 winds to a close and we all head to the theater to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the 24th time, we see, in trailer form, the ultimate big-screen battle of 2016. Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice are jockeying for fan attention at most cinema showings of Episode VII and it’s got us wondering: when it comes to wham-bang superhero cinema, who will win 2016?

Marvel‘s kicking off Phase III with a culmination (Captain America: Civil War) and the introduction of both a new hero and magical corner of the cinematic universe (Doctor Strange). Both wildly different approaches that get even further splintered when you consider Marvel‘s tight creative control and consistency alongside DC‘s wide-open, director-driven, arguably aimless vision. When it comes down to it, there is no clear winner…but Marvel may have an edge thanks to the impending emotional pay-off of Civil War. Then again, if DC figures out a way to roll their stellar TV slate into the multi-verse…
