DC Superheroes Will Cross Over with the Hanna-Barbera Comics

DC Superheroes Will Cross Over with the Hanna-Barbera Comics

Earlier this year, DC Comics rolled out its wild takes on the Hanna-Barbera titles including The Flinstones and a post-apocalyptic Scooby-Doo comic. Now, DC is taking that further by putting together even crazier crossovers between its own superhero titles and the Hanna-Barbera books. One especially odd choice: a battle between the Suicide Squad and the Banana Splits.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there will be four crossover annuals released in March 2017, including the previously mentioned Suicide Squad/Banana Splits Annual #1 by Tony Bedard and artist Ben Caldwell. The plot involves Amanda Waller recruiting the Banana Splits for a mission to save the Suicide Squad. And yes, we are expecting this to be more of a comedic parody than a straightforward superhero story.

Another crossover that we’re particularly looking forward to is the Green Lantern/Space Ghost Annual #1 by writers James Tynion IV and Chris Sebela with artist Ariel Olivetti. That story will find Space Ghost and Green Lantern forced to fight each other and their greatest foes, while swapping power sources along the way.

You can find the covers for the other two crossovers in the gallery below. Writers Marc Andreyko and Jeff Parker will be teaming up with artist Steve Lieber for the Adam Strange/Future Quest Annual #1, which appears to be in continuity with Strange’s current appearance in the Death of Hawkman miniseries. Essentially, the cast of Jonny Quest will help Adam Strange get back to his own universe, assuming they survive the dinosaurs of the Lost Valley. The final crossover is Booster Gold/The Flinstones Annual #1, by Mark Russell with artists Rick Leonardi and Scott Hanna. In that tale, Booster will travel back in time to the Flinstones‘ prehistoric era to discover how Fred and Barney repelled an alien threat that has returned in the 25th century.

Additionally, each annual will also feature backup stories featuring modernized updates of Top Cat, The Jetsons, Rudd and Reddy, and Snagglepuss.
