Tom Hanks Returns in Promo for DAVID S. PUMPKINS ANIMATED SPECIAL

Last year was a ratings bonanza for Saturday Night Live, one driven by Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump and Melissa McCarthy’s angry Sean Spicer impression. But despite those memorable performances, the true breakout star of the season was Tom Hanks‘ bewildering David S. Pumpkins. And this Saturday night, he’s back just in time for Halloween with a new animated holiday special.

NBC has announced the half-hour show will air in SNL‘s normal time slot at 11:30 Saturday night. (That will be followed by an hourlong clip show of some of the best SNL Halloween sketches). But just because David S. Pumpkins and his dancing skeletons (played by Mikey Day and a no-longer-on-the-show-so-he’s-free-to-grow-facial-hair Bobby Moynihan) are showing up as cartoons this time, that didn’t stop Tom Hanks from getting back into his orange and black pumpkin suit to film a promo for the occasion.

If anyone had any questions about whether or not this special would be geared towards a more mainstream audience, and therefore possibly be a little less absurd than the original sketch, this video should answer ’em. We expect this to be as silly as the original David Pumpkins appearance was. And it really was ridiculous.

David Pumpkins does not scare the hell out of us, but there actually is something terrifying about how many times we’ve watched that sketch since it aired last year.

The David S. Pumpkins Animated Halloween Special airs this Saturday, October 28th, at 11:30 p.m. What do you hope to see from this holiday show? Tell us in the comments below.
