David Bowie’s Iconic ‘Read’ Poster is Getting Re-Issued

While the world is still coming to terms with the loss of the one and only David Bowie (and, let’s be real: we may never be OK with it), we can at least find comfort in the reminders of the great artistry and passion the man left in his wake. No doubt the past few weeks have found you spending a fair amount of time listening to Bowie’s catalog of music or revisiting the movies of which he was a part. Well now the American Library Association decided to re-issue their David Bowie “Read” poster, bringing our stroll down memory lane all the way back to our childhood bedrooms or neighborhood libraries. BowieRead013116

To say that Bowie was an avid reader would be an understatement. Back in 2013, a list of his 100 favorite books was released on his website—along with the hashtag #BowieBookClub (of which we definitely want to see a resurgence). The list is impressive in the varied nature of the books he read, and the fact there’s nearly none on it that anyone would consider an “easy” read.

The ALA has continued their “Read” poster campaign throughout the years, but there may not be a more famous one than a barefoot Bowie run-jumping(?) with a his eyes affixed on the pages of a book. We usually need a comfy chair and a cup of tea to enjoy a book, but Bowie could do it while exercising. Even more proof that Bowie was the absolute best! This being the only “Read” poster most remember, it’s a delight that entirely new generations will be convinced that reading is cool (Note: It always has been) by quite possibly the coolest person to ever live. The special limited-run 22″ x 34″ reprint of the iconic 1987 poster will run you $18 on the ALA site and will begin shipping sometime in February 2016.
