Have you ever come across something, let’s say a video, that is a perfect mix of fandom so beautifully done that you figure it just has to be some sort of professional production to promote something? Did you dig a little deeper and find that the perfect thing you’re obsessed with for that day, week, however long was in fact made by a group of die-hard fans? That’s what happened when I saw Darth Punk: The Funk Awakens.
I figured this video that mixes Star Wars fandom with Daft Punk had to be some sort of promo for a new album, a weird cross over or (fingers crossed) the house band for the newly announced Star Wars theme parks. It turns out that this phenomenally stylized music video was created by a group of true fans that call themselves Infectious Designer.
I’m sure it’s been cosplayed at some point in the past, but the combination of Sith Lord and Mandalorian Merc helmets in the style of Daft Punk is done so well this group has earned my eternal gratitude not only for the insanely entertaining video but for giving me a goal for pretty much every Halloween from here on out.
In the video, it seems Daft Punk-ified Vader and Fett have set their sights on a target. Do they seek to destroy her or recruit her into their dark (albeit incredibly neon) ranks? Also, there’s no other way to phrase this other than the following: THEY UP AND MADE ANÂ EG-6 POWER DROID INTO A FRIGGEN BOOMBOX YOU GUYS!
Apologies. I’ve never been one to be all “I found my spirit animal” but I think I finally have with that EG-6 sound system.
Infectious Designer have even treated us to a prequel video:
