DARK SOULS Comic Book Slated for April Release

Praise the sun!

praising intensifies

I know, you’re probably sick of hearing that phrase, but we really do have something exciting to celebrate. In addition to the third (and probably final) entry in the Dark Souls series–which launches in North America on April 12–an exclusive post on IGN revealed that Titan Comics has acquired the rights to the franchise, and will be releasing a Dark Souls comic book on April 6, ahead of the upcoming game’s release.

According to the report, the comic is titled “Dark Souls” and is set to include brand new stories set in the Souls universe. So, if you had your heart set on a straight up adaptation of the series’ plot, this won’t be it. But, that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t expand upon or feature existing characters.

The comics will be written by Titan’s Doctor Who writer George Mann, and will be illustrated by Alan Quah.

“Dark Souls has a rich, original universe that’s just begging to be explored in comics, and I’m honoured to have the opportunity to delve in and tell some new stories within it,” Mann stated in a press release. “I’ve been a fan of the games for some time, so it’s a real thrill to be able to contribute to the mythology of the Hollows and their world.”

At the moment, it’s unclear whether Dark Souls will be a part of a limited or ongoing series. Based on Mann’s quote, and the expansive lore, keeping the series going would make sense. As he mentioned, the universe is rich, which opens up a ton of possibilities. The lore and locations also change throughout the three games, so there is a lot of ground to cover.

The comic will be shipping with five different covers, four of which you can check out in the gallery below.
