DARK SOULS 3 Might be Announced at E3

Souls fans rejoice! According to a report on VG 24/7, a trusted source says that the third installment in the Dark Souls series will be announced by Bandai Namco at E3. With the recent release of both Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin and Bloodborne (which we called a masterpiece) the rumor couldn’t have come at a better time.

According to the source, Hidetaka Miyazaki — who directed Demon Souls, Dark Souls and most recently Bloodborne — will head the team once more. After directing the first Dark Souls title, Miyazaki handed the role of director over to Dark Souls 2 co-directors Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura and instead acted as supervisor.

Though the platform the title will be releasing on is yet to be revealed, the source guesses that the game will be announced during Sony’s press conference which takes place the evening of June 15. We’re guessing the game will be releasing on several platforms, just as the previous two have.

Although the assumption that the game will end up being teased at Sony’s conference wasn’t explained, it probably stems from the fact that they might be announcing the Bloodborne DLC. Sony Computer Entertainment President Shuhei Yoshida recently teased: “So I have been asked by many people if we are making DLC for Bloodborne. I can say… An expansion is coming. More info later this year.” It would make a lot of sense to slip in a Dark Souls 3 tease somewhere during From Software’s time on stage.

Other than that, there were no further details revealed. Some may be surprised by the timing of the announcement, but it makes a lot more sense than you’d think. After Dark Souls’ 2011 release, the sequel was announced during the Spike Video Game Awards at the end of 2012 and eventually released in 2014. Even if we don’t hear anything about it at E3, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if details drop sometime this year.
