Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland Join Forces in First CHAOS WALKING Image

Before Star Wars: Episode IX begins filming, Daisy Ridley is taking a break from intergalactic warfare to star alongside Tom Holland in Chaos Walking, the first film in what could a new YA film franchise for Lionsgate. Ridley has shared the first photo from behind-the-scenes of their new movie, which depicts her in costume alongside Holland.

Ridley posted the picture on her Facebook page, which served as her announcement that production was underway. Chaos Walking is based upon Patrick Ness’ novel The Knife of Never Letting Go, which takes place on New World, a colonized planet where the women have mysteriously died. Only the men remain, including Holland’s Todd Hewitt, who is the last boy to make the transition to adulthood. Ridley’s character remains unnamed during the beginning of the story, in part because she is completely silent.

Another thing to keep in mind for this movie is that silence has taken on an entirely different meaning. All of the men of New World can telepathically hear each others’ minds, and the thoughts of animals as well. They’re so accustomed to it that they call the phenomena “noise.” Ridley’s character seems to exist outside of that bubble as a “hole in the noise.”

Ness completed his YA Chaos Walking trilogy with The Ask and the Answer and Monsters of Men. Between the current Spider-Man and the newest major player in the Star Wars saga, we would honestly be surprised if Chaos Walking doesn’t become a hit. It’s also got Edge of Tomorrow and The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman at the helm, which will only increase its chances of catching on.

It’s going to be a long wait for this one, as Chaos Walking won’t hit theaters until March 1, 2019. But we’re looking forward to the Peter Parker and Rey team up of our dreams!
