CRIMSON PEAK Bleeding Parfaits

The trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s much-anticipated horror flick, Crimson Peak is positively chilling. No, seriously — did you see all those bloody footprints in the snow? We’re bundling up and locking all the doors to our gothic Victorian castle.

How creepy would it be to have a seemingly serene, delicate dessert parfait ooze blood as soon as you spoon into it? Absolutely horrifying but incredibly delicious. Much like Crimson Peak itself, we imagine.

Crimson Peak Parfaits Recipe-10082015

Crimson Peak Parfaits
(serves 4)
ingredients:
-8 ounces mascarpone cheese
-1 teaspoon vanilla
-pinch of salt
-1-1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
-1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
-lemon curd
-red food gel dye

In a medium bowl, stir together the mascarpone, vanilla and salt. Stir together until smooth, and set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer beat whipping cream and powdered sugar, until stiff peaks form. Set aside ½ cup of mixture for later.

Fold the rest of the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until combined, then whip again slightly to add more air.

Spoon into a piping bag and pipe into dessert cups, leaving a shallow well in the centers.

In a small bowl stir together the lemon curd and the red food gel dye to form and oozy, edible blood. Spoon it into the wells in the center of the filled dessert cups.

Top with the rest of the whipped cream and add a few edible bloody few prints for decoration.

Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
