Could Tom Hiddleston Play SHERLOCK’s Third Holmes Brother?

Holy Hiddlesticks, Batman! Tom Hiddleston, a.k.a. Loki, a.k.a. The Night Manager might end up playing the mysterious third Holmes brother on Sherlock, and we’re unlocking all the mysteries behind Sherlock season four right here on Nerdist News.

Plenty of panels got fans drooling at this year’s Comic-Con, especially the panel for Tumblr darling Sherlock. Just like in pervious years, the cast teased some hot goss in the form of three words that clue us into the new episodes’ storylines. This year, we got three names that hint at new characters set to appear in the upcoming season: Thatcher, Smith, and Sherrinford… Wait, Sherrinford? As in Sherrinford Holmes, the long-rumored eldest Holmes brother?

Our Managing Editor and resident queen/co-host of Fangirling, Alicia Lutes had an exclusive interview with some of the Sherlock cast and creators at our Comic-Con Camp Conival last week, and she got some juicy details from the gang. When she pressed about the appearance of Sherrinford, co-creator Mark Gatiss (who also happens to play second Holmes brother Mycroft) teased, “All good things to those who wait.” So we’re choosing to take that as a solid yes, because we’re nothing if not eternal optimists. But who, oh who, could be playing that third Holmes brother?

Like we said above, our money’s on Taylor Swift‘s current boytoy Tom Hiddleston. In our own ‘sclusive clip, Lutes brought the rumor to the panel, asking, “If you could have Tom Hiddleston on Sherlock… would you?” And get this! We didn’t get a no! Instead we got a, “Who says we haven’t?” This whole post has been an emotional rollercoaster and Gatiss just isn’t helping (even if he did say he’s messing with us after. Riiiight).

Rumors continued to escalate when Gatiss and Amanda Abbington (who plays Mary Watson/Morstan) tweeted a photo with Hiddleston at the Con with the caption, “Blud.” And we know, we know, blud is slang for “mate” but it’s also slang for “blood brother.” Besides: say it outloud! Blud! As in blood! As in family! Maybe they’re all playing us, but we’d like to think we’ve got the deductive reasoning and investigative skills to be our own Watson here.

Check out the whole interview below:

But what do you guys think? Is Hiddlesticks the most obvious, perfect, beautiful choice for Sherrinford? Does he look older than Brannaditch Crumblersnootch? Are the creators giving us the troll of the century? Any better ideas for the Holmes sibling-in-waiting? Let’s discuss!
