Conan Covered “Seven Nation Army” for the Troops in Qatar

In standard Bob Hope fashion, Conan O’Brien is currently touring the Middle East to entertain the troops. The funny guy recently performed in Qatar, where he whipped out a Fender to add music to his typical bante. “I changed the lyrics to the first verse and it’s for you,” O’Brien told the crowd. “And it’s not f-in ‘Free Bird,’” he added emphatically.

Dressed in a Conan tank top cut to show off those pearlescent limbs, the comedian then launched into the familiar opening riff of the White Stripes’ classic, “Seven Nation Army”–with his own topical twist to the verse:

“I flew here to Qatar / And now I’m practicing Sharia law / I should not play guitar / Or shovel pork products into my jaw / There’s no drinking and no smoking and no pork, it’s a living hell,”O’Brien sang. “But who cares when you guys have got a fucking Taco Bell / And as long as there’s free wi-fi, I’m never going home!”

Grace Potter and her band, who shared the stage with him, carried the song from there, reverting back to its original version. She ripped through the lyrics with her sultry voice while O’Brien continued to pluck through the track’s indelible bass-line, all the while bobbing that distinct strawberry blonde coiffure.

Check out the video below. Did they do the White Stripes justice? Should Conan always perform whilst playing guitar? And what about that tank top? Let us know what you think in the comments.
