Comics Relief: SPIDER-MAN Enters “The Clone Conspiracy” This Fall

Welcome fangirls and fanboys to your weekend edition of Comics Relief! Lots of news in today’s edition  from most of the major publishers, starting with more clone troubles for a certain Peter Parker. That didn’t work out so well for him last time, did it? Read on for all the details…

Spider-Man event Dead No More Becomes The Clone Conspiracy

For a few months now, Marvel Comics has been trumpeting the coming of some kind of Spider-Man event called Dead No More, that seemingly featured the return from the dead of almost all of Peter Parker’s dearly departed loved ones. Well, now we know how they’re coming back — in an Orphan Black-ish twist, Dead No More has been renamed The Clone Conspiracy. Old school Spidey villain the Jackal will be behind it all, which makes sense, since he’s usually behind all of Peter Parker’s clone troubles going back decades.

The Clone Conspiracy is set to receive its own five-issue mini-series co-written by Dan Slott and Christos Gage, with art from Jim Cheung, that will also tie into Amazing Spider-Man #19-23 as well as Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1. According to writer Dan Slott, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said “The Jackal has always seemed to be obsessed with cloning Spider Man and Gwen [Stacy]. He’s had a very narrow focus. That’s led to very interesting stories in the past, but you have to stop and think, if you’re The Jackal and you take science to the next level, what’s more important to you than just cloning Gwens and Peters? What does this character want, and what’s he going to do with this awesome science?” The Clone Conspiracy launches in October. [EW via Newsarama]

The first crossover of the Rebirth era is coming to the Batman titles this fall

DC’s Rebirth has just begun, but already plans are being revealed for the first crossover between titles in this new era. Starting this fall, Night of the Monster Men will launch in September 21’s Batman #7 and continues across Nightwing #5 and Detective Comics#941. The crossover is being written by writer Steve Orlando, and the six-part story will feature the heroes of Gotham fighting a mysterious villain from Batman’s past. Night of the Monster Men will continue in Batman #8 and Nightwing #6 before concluding in Detective Comics #942. You can check out some preliminary art for the crossover below: [Comic Book Resources]

Are the Wildstorm characters on their way back?

Speaking of DC Rebirth, one of the curiously absent elements of the newest relaunch is the total lack of any Wildstorm characters so far. DC made it a point to integrate the Wildstorm characters like The Authority into the DCU ever since the New 52 began, and so far, no sign of them in this new era. But recently artist Brett Booth, currently drawing Titans, has released a group image of the Wildstorm characters via Twitter, with the hashtag #WildstormReborn. Are Wildcats and the rest coming back sooner rather than later? You can check out Booth’s tweet below: [Bleeding Cool]

Robotech is coming to Titan Comics

Back in the ’80s, anime series Robotech — which was actually the combination of three distinct Japanese cartoons combined into one long, epic saga — was what introduced an entire generation of of kids to the world of anime. Since the beginning of the show, there have been comic book adaptations of it, first with Comico, then Wildstorm and others. Now UK Publisher Titan Comics is picking up the license from producer Harmony Gold, with a new series set to debut early in 2017. Now word yet on which “era” of the show the comic will be set in, but  Titan is expected to announce the creative team in the coming weeks. [Comics Alliance]

Does (SPOILER) die in Civil War II #3?

Don’t read further and skip to the next item if you dan’t want to potentially be spoiled!!

Civil War II # 3 doesn’t come out for a few weeks yet, but already speculation is running rampant over which classic Marvel character bites the big one in that issue. And maybe “Big One” is the operative word here, since the last teaser image of issue #2, featuring the Avengers taking on the Green Goliath — plus the fact that character is famous enough to justify midnight sales of the third issue — suggest it’s none other than Dr. Bruce Banner, the Incredible Hulk.

Another reason to suspect it’s Banner? The third issue is going to have a Jack Kirby variant cover…and Kirby famously created the Hulk way back in 1962. We’ll find out in couple of weeks, but right now, my money is on the Hulk going bye-bye. You know, for now. Don’t cry Cap, he’ll be back, just like you and everyone you know.  [Bleeding Cool]

Joe Madureira previews his Justice League Rebirth cover featuring the DC Trinity

We haven’t heard a lot from former Battlechasers creator Joe Madureira recently in terms of comics work, but the artist has resurfaced with a variant cover for DC’s Justice league: Rebirth #1, which features the trinity of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman at the forefront. Although this would have probably been a better cover for the upcoming Trinity series from DC, we’re not really going to complain. You can see the cover image below, via Joe Mad’s Twitter.  Justice League: Rebirth #1, due out on July 6 from writer Bryan Hitch and artist Tony Daniel. [Comic Book]
