Comics Relief: Marvel X ATTACK ON TITAN Crossover Now Available For Free

In today’s edition of Comics Relief, we have news about some unusual product tie-ins for some favorite comics series, as well as Dark Horse teaming up with Mike Mignola’s Hellboy to support the always important Hero Initiative. First off though, news from Marvel about just how, and when, we’ll be able to learn about their all-new and different post-Secret Wars universe…

Marvel Announces Free 64-page Preview Comic For The All-New, All-Different Re-launch

When Secret Wars ends, Marvel will be re-launching the line with a series of all new #1 issues in an initiative called “All New, All Different Marvel.” So far, the creative teams and directions of these books have been kept under wraps, but that’s about to change. The publisher just announced All-New, All-Different Marvel Preview, a free 64-page full color magazine, coming to comic shops on July 1st.

According to Marvel, “this epic magazines features your first real look into All-New, All-Different Marvel! No daily teasers, no scouring the Internet for multiple announcements – just explosively striking images of Marvel’s new lineup coming in the latter half of 2015 from the industry’s top creators! Exciting teams, dynamic characters, deadly villains, dazzling creators and more will be revealed!”

The hope is that this strategy ensures that the largest number of active comic shop customers are reached first, driving those fans into comic shops to get their hands on the free print magazine. Of course, there will be huge coverage being give to these launches across all forms of media, but for a change, this preview of the new Marvel universe will be available in print before hitting the internet, giving fans of the brick and mortar stores a leg up. DC Comics Has Their  Biggest Digital Comics Sale Ever

In light of this month’s big DC Comics re-launch, which the publisher is labeling as “DC You”, the company has announced a huge digital comics sale that is set to span some 1,300 issues, easily the publisher’s biggest digital sale of all time. Labeled “The New DC Universe Sale,” it’s designed to celebrate the company’s post-Convergence relaunch of their entire line. The sale will be divided across three weeks this month and include a total of 1,291 back-issues.  Each issue in the sale will be reduced to a price of $0.99, which is a discount of anywhere from 50% to 80%. These sale prices are available through the DC Digital Store, iBooks, comiXology.com, Google Play, Kindle Store, Nook Store, and iVerse ComicsPlus. Nail Art Based On Image Comics Books? Best Comics Merch Tie-in Ever?

Now here’s some comic book tie-in merchandise that is a little bit off the beaten path; just announced is a new line of Espionage Cosmetics nail wraps inspired by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Valentine De Landro‘s Bitch Planet and Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky‘s Sex Criminals books from Image Comics. For those of you who don’t know what nail wraps are (basically, most of the dudes reading this), it’s adhesive nail art that can be applied at home. Each style was approved by the creative teams on the books, and they’re also glow-in-the-dark. How cool is that? So all you fans who are ladies (or drag queens — I’m sure there’s more than a few of you out there), you guys might want to hop on this one. [Comics Alliance]

Marvel & Hot Wheels Teaming Up For SDCC Exclusive 

Hot Wheels is teaming up with Marvel for a Comic-Con International exclusive Secret Wars Character Car 3-Pack, which is now available for pre-order at MattyCollector.com. It features die-cast cars representing Miles Morales, the Ultimate Spider-Man; Superior Iron Man; and Sam Wilson’s Captain America. Each comes with its own window-box display with custom art by former Young Avengers artist Jim Cheung, which comes in a book-style slipcase. The SDCC exclusive is priced at $35, and pre-orders can be picked up at Comic-Con this July 8-12th. [CBR]

Marvel/Attack On Titan Crossover Now Available for Free

In even more Secret Wars news (well, kind of), Secret Wars #0, which was Marvel’s Free Comic Book Day issue, also included the the Attack on Titan and Marvel crossover story “Attack on Avengers.” If you weren’t able to snag a copy of that issue when it was released, it has now been made available digitally for free. Although the story was originally commissioned by Japanese magazine Brutus, it was then translated into English just for the Free Comic Book Day issue. The story was written by Attack on Titan creator Hjime Isayama, with breakdowns by C.B. Cebulski and art by Gerardo Sandoval and colorist Dono Sanchez Almara. Hellboy and the Hero Initiative Join Forces for Latest 100 Covers Project

Get ready for 100 different versions of everyone’s favorite big, red demonic agent of the BPRD, as The Hero Initiative has announced a new “100 Covers” project featuring Mike Mignola’s Hellboy. Hellboy 100 features one hundred different comics artists contributing original covers done to blank copies of Hellboy & The B.P.R.D. 1952 #1. After that, the Hero Initiative will be auctioning off these covers beginning June 2, with plans to collect them all into one book in September.

The Hero Initiative was created to help comics creators who are in dire financial situations. According to Hero Initiative President Jim McLauchlin, “When creators have medical or financial problems they can’t handle themselves, we help them. We’ve been able to save people’s homes, prevent evictions, and get people the medical treatment they desperately need. The goal of the Hero Initiative is to improve creators’ quality of life and in some cases, save lives.” [Newsarama]

Fantagraphic to release deluxe slipcased edition of Wimmin’s Comix

One of the most influential anthology comics from the underground comics scene was Wimmin’s Comics, which ran from 1972 to 1992 in various different versions and published work by notable women comics creators like Trina Robbins, Aline Kominsky-Crumb,and many others, making it one of the most important anthologies ever. Now this coming fall, Fantagraphics will be publishing a deluxe slipcased edition of The Complete Wimmen’s Comix in two volumes, retailing for $100. Edited by Trina Robbins, one of the main drivers behind Wimmen’s, set will include the entire first issue of It Ain’t Me Babe, the first all female comic book ever published.
